Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew revealed from his native island of Imbros that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has asked him to officiate at the wedding of his son, Konstantinos, in September 2027.

The Ecumenical Patriarch made the announcement during events on Imbros marking the 65th anniversary of his entry into the clergy.

Referring to a recent telephone conversation with the Greek Prime Minister, Patriarch Bartholomew said that he had called Mitsotakis to wish him a speedy recovery following a minor bicycle accident.

During their conversation, the Prime Minister asked the Ecumenical Patriarch to keep a date available in September next year so that he could officiate at his son Konstantinos’ wedding.

“Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking on the telephone with the Prime Minister to wish him a speedy recovery after a minor accident he had with his bicycle,” Patriarch Bartholomew said.

“He then asked me to set aside a day in September next year to officiate at the wedding of his son Konstantinos. Perhaps, if I am in good health,” the Ecumenical Patriarch added.

Patriarch Bartholomew is currently on Imbros, where celebrations are taking place to mark 65 years since his ordination as a deacon in 1961, following his graduation from the Theological School of Halki.
