Γιορτή σήμερα: Τη μνήμη του Αγίου Μύρωνος τιμά σήμερα, 17 Αυγούστου, η Εκκλησία μας. Ο Άγιος Μύρων μαρτύρησε όταν αυτοκράτωρ ήταν ο Δέκιος, το 250 μ.Χ. Καταγόμενος από πλούσια οικογένεια, θα μπορούσε να ζήσει άνετα, με όλα τα επίγεια αγαθά που θα επιθυμούσε.

Όμως η μεγάλη του αγάπη προς το Χριστό, έκανε το Μύρωνα να χειροτονηθεί Ιερέας. Αφιερώθηκε, λοιπόν, ολοκληρωτικά στο ποιμαντικό του καθήκον και δίδασκε, νουθετούσε και βοηθούσε το κάθε ένα μέλος του ποιμνίου του. Μεριμνούσε καθημερινά για τους φτωχούς, τις χήρες και τα ορφανά.

Κάποτε, ο έπαρχος Αχαΐας Αντίπατρος πήγε στον τόπο όπου λειτουργούσε ο Μύρων και συνέλαβε πολλούς χριστιανούς. Για να εκβιάσει λοιπόν το Μύρωνα, να αλλαξοπιστήσει, έφερε μπροστά του το ποίμνιο του και του είπε ότι, αν αυτός αρνηθεί το Χριστό, θα τους αφήσει όλους ελεύθερους.

Ο Μύρων μειδίασε και απάντησε: «Αν ήταν για τη σωτηρία των πνευματικών μου παιδιών, πρόθυμα θα έδινα τη ζωή μου. Τώρα όμως δεν πρόκειται γι’ αυτό. Ας δώσουν λοιπόν οι ίδιοι απάντηση».

Feast Day Today: Our Church honors the memory of Saint Myron today, August 17th. Saint Myron was martyred during the reign of Emperor Decius in 250 AD. Coming from a wealthy family, he could have lived comfortably with all the earthly goods he desired.

However, his great love for Christ led Myron to be ordained a Priest. He was thus completely dedicated to his pastoral duty, teaching, admonishing, and helping every member of his flock. He cared daily for the poor, the widows, and the orphans.

At one time, the governor of Achaia, Antipater, went to the place where Myron was ministering and arrested many Christians. To blackmail Myron into apostasy, he brought his flock before him and told him that if he denied Christ, he would set them all free.
