The Gospel of Monday, August 17, 2026 - Saint Myron - Vima Orthodoxias

Gospel: ACCORDING TO MARK 1:9–15 – 9 And it happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens being split open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from the heavens: "You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." 12 And immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness; 13 and he was in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by Satan, and he was with the wild animals, and the angels ministered to him. 14 After John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

ACCORDING TO MARK 1:9–15

9 And during those days it happened that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee. And he was baptized by John in the Jordan river. 10 And as he was coming up from the water of the river, at that very moment he saw the heavens being split open and the Holy Spirit descending like a dove and coming upon him. 11 And a voice came from the heavens, which said: "You are my beloved Son, in whom I have been well pleased, for even as a man you have pleased me and satisfied me in everything." 12 And immediately after his baptism, the Holy Spirit, by an internal impulse, drove him out into the wilderness.

13 And there in the wilderness he was tempted for forty days by Satan, who vainly sought to distract him from the thoughts and contemplations dedicated to God and to duty. And he was there alone, with only the wild animals of the desert as companions. However, the angels invisibly accompanied him, and after his victory over Satan, they appeared and ministered to him. 14 After John was handed over by King Herod to prison, Jesus came to Galilee and proclaimed the joyful message that the heavenly kingdom of God would come among men very soon.

15 And he was saying that the appointed time by God for the coming of the Messiah has now been fulfilled and the days have drawn near, during which the Messiah, with the new spiritual, holy, and heavenly life—which will be transmitted within His Church—will establish the kingdom of heaven upon the earth. Repent, therefore, and believe in the joyful message that the Messiah has come, and receive Him as your Savior and Redeemer.
