🌐 Quote shown in the original Greek — English translation below

August 18th – Feast Day Today: Saints Floros and Laurus - Vima Orthodoxias

Feast Day Today: Our Church honors the memory of the Holy Floros and Laurus today, August 18th. Saints Floros and Laurus were twin brothers and were inseparably united through the fervent faith and love they had for Christ.

They originated from Byzantium and were taught Christianity and the art of stonemasonry by Saints Proclus (or Patroclus according to Saint Nicodemus) and Maximus, who also suffered a martyr's death for Christ.

After the death of their teachers, Floros and Laurus departed for Illyria and chose the city of Ulpiana as their place of residence. In this city, they practiced their craft, but simultaneously used it as a means to strive for the spread of the Gospel.

There lived an idol priest named Meredios. His son, Athanasios, suffered blindness in one eye, which medical science could not cure. Then, the two artisan brothers approached him, and by invoking the name of Christ, they healed the eye of the idolater priest's son, resulting in both of them believing in Christ.

As soon as the governor Lycon learned of this, he arrested the two brothers and, after torturing them terribly, threw them into a well, where they surrendered their spirits. Thus, the two artisan brothers entered the eternal city, "for God is the artisan and creator" (Epistle to the Hebrews, 9:10). That is to say, God is the artisan and builder of it. Their relics were collected by faithful Christians and transported to Constantinople.

Troparion:

Tone Plagal 1st. The Word who is the Beginning.

Exercising piety in their ways, you passed through the trial of martyrdom well, glorifying Christ as close brothers; therefore, we cry out to you, Floros and Laurus, as brave Athletes, and we honor you. Save us all from every need, O Holy ones.
