Panteleimon of Veria: 'Saint Luke held a great love for the Mother of God' - Vima Orthodoxias

Panteleimon of Veria: On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Veria, Naousa, and Campania, Mr. Panteleimon, presided over the Vespers and the Great Paraklesis of the Most Holy Theotokos and preached the divine word at the Holy Temple of Saint Luke the Physician, at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Dovra in Veria.

At the end of the service, His Eminence, as he does every Tuesday afternoon during the celebration of the Paraklesis of Saint Luke the Physician, read the relevant prayer, while a crowd of pilgrims gathered to venerate the grace-filled holy relic of the miraculous Saint, which is treasured in the Holy Monastery.

His Eminence, preaching the divine word, mentioned among other things: 'Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which You nourished.'

This beatitude from an unknown woman observing Christ speaking to Martha, as we heard a moment ago in the Gospel reading, was delivered to us by the holy Evangelist Luke, who, as we know from tradition, had a special bond with our Panagia, and indeed, it is to him that we owe some of the miraculous icons of the Most Holy Theotokos.

And this beatitude concerns the Lady Theotokos, to whom we also prayed tonight, as we do during all these days of the Dormition period, as we prepare to celebrate the great feast of her Falling Asleep, her Holy Paraklesis.

However, it is not only the Evangelist Luke who was distinguished for the love and respect he held for the Panagia, Mother of our Lord.

The same love and the same respect were held for the Most Holy Theotokos by Saint Luke, the Archbishop of Symeopolis, the physician and wonderworker. Let us, therefore, hear what he himself says in one of his discourses about our Panagia.

'How can we not admire with all our heart the Most Holy Virgin who became the instrument of the great mystery of God, and who with her purity and holiness served the great work of the incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ?

How can we not call her
